Technology is a phenomenon that surrounds us all with artefacts on a daily basis. It is an element that helps us keep the changing dynamics of society. This digital communication tool has revolutionized the way we interact, bridging the gaps between individuals and enhancing connectivity. With online chat, we can effortlessly communicate and collaborate across vast distances, whether it's in the workplace, educational centers, or even within the confines of our homes. It has become a ubiquitous tool that simplifies work, fosters learning, and enables seamless communication in our technology-driven world.

Types of Technology Dependency

The first meaning of technology dependency is when a child requires medical equipment in their daily lives.1 This could include different devices and exists on a large spectrum. The second meaning stems from when children rely on technology to function throughout their daily lives.2 This can have negative effects and is not considered to be a healthy way of living.

Nothing Can Be Done Without the Internet

Instead of fully engaging with this most spectacular natural phenomenon, people chose to look at it from behind their cameras. I was shocked. There were professional photographers onboard and they were going to sell/give pictures away. But people wanted to take their pictures and videos anyway, even if they weren't going to be half as good. I went to two other eclipses, and it's always the same thing.

You use Calculators for Simple Calculations

As we cannot discard calculators completely, we need to figure out a way to stop the young learners from becoming reliant on them. Unless a student becomes dependent on it, using a calculator can actually be helpful. However, calculators should never be given to students without making sure that they have mastered the topic.

You Don't Remember Any Phone Numbers

The most obvious one. You used to be able to cite all your closest friends' and family's phone number by heart. Now you have to look up your own significant other's number in your phone when asked to write down an emergency contact. Hey, what's the number for the pizza place we order from every Friday? Oh, that's right, we order on Seamless.

Technology in Your Bedroom

Bringing technology into your bedroom, even with the intention of bettering your sleep, can have a negative impact. Studies have shown a link between sleep loss and blue light, which is emitted by personal electronic devices. When you look at a brightly lit screen before bed, it can trick your body clock to a level of daytime-level alertness.

Is Technology Killing Creativity?

The predominance of technology and smartphones in particular has lead to many suggestions that creativity is being killed by our reliance on these tools. This isn’t a new thought - people were suggesting that technology was extinguishing creative impulses long ago. When I was a kid, it was TV and computer games that were to bring the downfall of imaginations everywhere.
