Communication is a very important aspect in the growth of the culture and human society. It involves exchange of ideas, facts, opinions or emotions by two or more persons, and now, with the advent of online chat, it has become even more convenient. Technology has made communicating between one another significantly easier. The development of technology has remarkably improved our lifestyles and has made its impact felt on each and every aspect of our life. It also has an impact on the communication techniques and the development of communication.

Positive Impact of Technology on Communication

Data Retrieval And Information Sharing

The impact technology has made on our ability to contact one another is obvious (mail, telegrams, phone calls, emails, text, etc.); however, technology has also made it possible to share content with similar ease. Computers and smartphones can store photos, videos, and any types of documents.

Communication for the Disabled

A benefit of communication technology not often talked about is the technology's ability to give disabled people the ability to communicate. Communication technology, like electronic communication boards and specialized computer software, helps to give a voice to individuals who've previously gone unheard.

Long-Distance Communication

Early forms of long-distance communication included runners who ran messages back and forth between people and homing pigeons trained to fly written messages. The advancement of communication technology has helped to make long-distance communication fast and seemingly effortless.

Negative Impact that Growing Up Digital on Communication

A little more than half of millennials report experiencing some form of anxiety if they don’t have their phones on them, and people across generations check their phones 80 times a day on average. Part of the reason why we’re so anchored to our phones is that receiving emails and social media notifications actually releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter that makes us feel good, in our brains.

Mental Health

Depression and anxiety has been shown to be directly linked with social network usage. Several systematic reviews showed the link between social networks and depression/anxiety. Children who overuse technology may be more likely to experience mental health issues, including lack of attention, low creativity, delays in language development, delays in social and emotional development, and addiction to these technologies.

Some of the Negative Effects or Technologies Disadvantages are as Follows:

1. Job loss (downsizing) is one of the main concerns with AI integration in businesses.

2. Adverse effects to health such as the harmful effect of digital screens on eyes.

3. Decrease in physical interaction with meeting over call and social media platforms.

4. More ways for distraction with people multitasking, less efficiency.

5. Crime/Scam with internet or messaging app technologies.

Conclusion:

Modern technologies make people more connected with the world on the one hand and more isolated on the other hand. The ease of communication provided by technologies has improved our lives and makes them impersonal. Real emotions and feelings cannot be replaced by the convenience of social nets, emails and video conferences. “Electric communication will never be a substitute for the face of someone who with their soul encourages another person to be brave and true”.
