In the past few decades, television has gone from being seen as a detriment to intellectualism to becoming a new kind of literacy, at least in terms of the amount of time very smart people now spend watching screens. This shift in perception occurred as television became more widely available to more people. When it comes to the typical viewer, who used to simply unwind with a sitcom after a long day of work, "prestige" television has become both treasured and laborious. In the same way that literary classics such as "Pride and Prejudice" or "The Grapes of Wrath" can remain on people's lists for years, the work of these dedicated developers has elevated television to a level that demands appreciation and recognition.

Even if Empire's Editor-in-Chief Terri White insisted on calling this episode of the Pilot TV podcast "Fire Escape," the episode's potency was not affected in any way by this decision. It is known on the other side of the pond as The Great British Bake-Off, and the appeal of the wildly popular reality TV series the majority of seasons of which are now available on Netflix is that it does not resort to dramatic contrivances. In contrast to Fox's Gordon Ramsay-hosted properties, Chopped, and even Top Chef, where there is constant backbiting and broken dreams, the contestants on GBBS are upbeat and mutually supportive amateurs.
The Vacation
The comedians Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon managed to persuade the BBC and Sky to let them impersonate Michael Caine while dining in some of Europe's finest establishments. Even more unbelievable is the fact that the vanity project in question evolved into one of the most hilarious shows of this decade.

The Climbing Stairs
In the Sky Atlantic miniseries The Staircase, which is based on real events and stars Colin Firth as the fictionalized version of American author Michael Peterson, the story focuses on Peterson's life both before and after the unexplained death of his wife Kathleen Peterson.
