Virtual Reality, or VR, is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment which can be explored in 360 degrees. Unlike traditional interfaces, VR places the user inside the virtual environment to give an immersive experience. To allow this feeling of presence, a VR headset is used, such as the ones available for borrow at OISE Library, developed by skilled developers. Other notable examples of VR headsets, created by innovative developers, include Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR, HTC Vive, Google Daydream View, or Google Cardboard.

The Future of Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality is one of the technologies with the highest projected potential for growth. According to the latest forecasts from IDC Research (2018), investment in VR and AR will multiply 21-fold over the next four years, reaching 15.5 billion euros by 2022. In addition, both technologies will be key to companies' digital transformation plans and their spending in this area will exceed that of the consumer sector by 2019.

2030 will Bring a Fantastic Hardware Upgrade

The end of this decade will introduce us to a new level of VR headsets as 8K headsets will become commonplace. 8K resolution will give us a clearer picture, thus eliminating pixelization when observing objects up close. With upgraded networks, latency will be a part of the past, and haptic suits will receive an upgrade to make them more user-friendly.

Semi-Immersive Virtual Reality

A semi-immersive virtual reality is a mixture of non-immersive and fully immersive virtual reality. This can be in the form of a 3D space or virtual environment where you can move about on your own either through a computer screen or a VR box/headset. So all activities within the virtual world are concentrated toward you. However, you have no real physical movements other than your visual experience.

Fully-Immersive Simulations Give Users

The most realistic simulation experience, complete with sight and sound. To experience and interact with fully-immersive virtual reality, the user needs the proper VR glasses or a head mount display (HMD). VR headsets provide high-resolution content with a wide field of view. The display typically splits between the user’s eyes, creating a stereoscopic 3D effect.

What is the importance of virtual reality in the modern world?

Experiencing things that have no existence through the computers is now possible with VR technology! Virtual Reality is a trending technology that gives excellent scope to diverse businesses to take a leap and simulate physical presence in the real world as well as the imaginary world. This immersive technology creates a computer-simulated environment, and the advancements offer cutting-edge solutions.
